New Mission

New Mission

My mission is to explore how other countries around the world are dealing with education and special education issues.

I would like to visit and observe different types of schools that have proven records of success, wherever those schools may be. I would like to meet with school directors and administrators, government officials, leaders in the business world, and others who are responsible for implementing education systems or otherwise connected to education to learn more about how education is being addressed in their communities.

If you know of any remarkable schools in other parts of the world (especially special needs schools), please let me know about them. If you know of any education experts who are engaged in remarkable work in this field, please introduce me to them.

Please do not hesitate to share your thoughts or ideas regarding the above. Read more about my mission here.

Reflection & New Beginnings for the Jewish New Year

The Jewish New Year ("Rosh Hashanah") and the changing of the seasons marks a great time for reflection and new beginnings.

Although Rosh Hashanah does not start until this evening, I have been doing some pre-holiday reflection.  One of the insights I had thorough my introspection is how important family is to me.

Three months ago my wife gave birth to beautiful twin boys (in that moment, the adults became outnumbered by the children).  What a miraculous experience that was from start to finish: watching my wife carry twins, witnessing their birth, bringing them home from the hospital, and watching them grow.  Every day I am amazed to see two same-age babies staring back at me when I pop in to their room.  Just recently they started smiling and moving their arms and legs to show excitement.

Watching my 2-year-old daughter grow and develop over the last year has blown my mind and filled me with joy.  I didn't realize what an adventure it would be watching her experience the world.  A year ago she was saying individual words; now she's cracking jokes.  Just yesterday she made me laugh when we were walking home being playful and she said to me, "Tell mommy...daddy being so silly...daddy craaaazy."

On a professional level, while our firm has grown a great deal, both in size and in the number of clients we serve, the most remarkable thing for me has been the "work family" we are building.  Our team consists of individuals who are passionate about our work and who care about getting to know each other, learning about each other's interests, celebrating happy occasions, growing together professionally and personally, and supporting each other during difficult times.

On a related note, this past year I read a phenomenal book called Delivering Happiness by Tony Hsieh, CEO of the online shoe and clothing company Zappos.  The book, which illustrates Tony Hsieh's unique approach to working with others, inspired me, energized me, and has influenced our firm's approach to client service, team building, and office culture.

I am excited about building on the lessons I gleaned from Tony Hsieh, and continuing to clarify our mission, grow our firm, and further enhance our office culture in the year ahead.

To all of our clients and the professionals who support them, to my work family and my family at home, and to others who may be reading this post, I hope the year ahead is one filled with health, happiness, joy, and hope.

I hope you are able to take this time to reflect on where you've been and think about where you'd like to go over the next year.

Wishing you a happy and healthy new year and a wonderful new beginning!
